How to Tell If You Have a Water Service Line Leak
A buried leak is easy to miss because nothing seems wrong inside the house. Use this test.
The meter test
- Turn off all water use and irrigation.
- Find the meter in the box near the street and lift the lid carefully.
- Look for movement on the low-flow indicator or the dial.
- Close the main valve at the house. If the meter keeps moving, the leak is between the meter and the house.
Other signs
Look for unexplained wet or sunken ground, a sudden pressure drop, or a jump in your bill. See our service line leak detection or the high water bill guide.
