Who Is Responsible for the Water Service Line?
In most Washington water systems the utility owns the main and the meter. The line from the meter to your house is usually the property owner’s responsibility, including repair and replacement.
Why it matters
If a leak is on your side, the repair cost is yours, and a leak on the utility side should be reported to the utility. A surface leak survey tells you which side the leak is on. Contact your water provider to confirm for your address, and read about repair and replacement.
